Why do I need a credit card?

A Citibank credit card allows you to pay for goods and services using bank funds. By using your credit card you no longer need to save money to buy things that you need right now, or put off your purchase just because you don't have enough money right at the moment. Thanks to your Citibank credit card you can pay for your purchases immediately and repay the debt later at your convenience, partially or in full at your discretion. It’s a more convenient method of payment since you don't have to carry large amounts of cash in case of unforeseen expenses. A credit card gives you the ability to plan your budget rationally.

Are Citibank credit cards accepted abroad?

Citibank credit cards are accepted as payment for goods and services both in Russia and abroad – anywhere you see a Eurocard/MasterCard logo. Using a credit card you can pay for goods and services in over 30 million retailers all over the world. A credit card eliminates the issue of exchanging money, and is more secure and convenient when traveling. You can withdraw cash any time using your credit card at more than 800,000 ATMs displaying the MasterCard logo around the world, including 9,000 Citigroup ATMs.

What makes a credit card different from other payment methods?

You don't have to deposit your own funds in the bank. You simply use Citibank's funds and then pay off the debt at your convenience.

Unlike overdraft on a current Citibank account, a credit card line is much bigger (up to RUB 600,000), while the interest rate charged for using credit card is much lower.

A Citibank credit card is a loan in your pocket. To revolve your credit line you don't have to collect documents and go through the procedure over and over again. By regularly making the minimum monthly payment you can continuously use your credit line for the entire life of your credit card.

What makes a supplementary credit card different from a primary one?

The main differences between a supplementary credit card and a primary credit card:

  • A supplementary credit card gives access to the primary credit card account.
  • A supplementary credit card doesn't have its own credit limit.
  • The spending limit on a supplementary credit card is determined by the primary cardholder within his/her credit limit (but not less than RUB 9,000).
  • A supplementary credit card is available at a lower annual fee.
  • Easier to get; minimum requirements apply.
  • All supplementary credit card transactions are included for the purpose of rewards and bonus points to the primary cardholder (only for reward credit cards).
Whatever the differences, a supplementary credit card holder can enjoy all the benefits of the primary credit card.

When do I pay the annual fee for my supplementary credit card?

The annual fee for a supplementary credit card is collected upon activation of the supplementary credit card and after the first transaction using the primary or supplementary credit card on the date of the annual fee for the primary credit card. The annual fee for a supplementary credit card is collected both for the expired period and for the following 12 calendar months.

What spend limit may be assigned to a supplementary card?

A supplementary card may be assigned a spend limit within the credit limit on the primary card, with the minimum of RUB 9,000.

How does a supplementary card work?

  • If the credit limit on the supplementary card = the credit limit on the primary card
Both you and the supplementary cardholder have access to the same amount of funds for retail transactions or cash advances, at any time. Whenever the account is credited or debited, the available limit changes accordingly both for you and for the supplementary cardholder by the transaction amount, regardless which of the card it was charged to.
  • If the credit limit on the supplementary card < the credit limit on the primary card
The supplementary cardholder can make credit card payments or get cash advances within the credit limit assigned by the primary cardholder. The credit limit on the supplementary card is restored automatically once a month on the primary credit card statement date (provided there are sufficient funds on the primary credit card account).

How can I restore the available limit on the supplementary card before the credit card statement date?

To restore the available limit on the supplementary card before the credit card statement date, you always have the following Citibank services at your disposal:

You can increase the credit limit assigned to the supplementary card at any time by calling 24-hour CitiPhone Banking or visiting any Citibank branch.Your supplementary cardholder will be able to additionally spend the difference between the new and the old limit. What is the Grace period?

The Grace Period allows you to use the credit line free of charge for a certain period of time from the moment of purchase. This period may last up to 50 days. If you repay your credit card balance in full before the last repayment date indicated in your balance statement, no interest is charged for using the credit line.

Why do I need the Grace period?

It’s convenient when you need additional funds to cover both planned and unforeseen expenses. Essentially, you obtain the ability to spend the bank's funds as if they were your own, at no additional cost.

Who is eligible for the Grace period?

The Grace Period is available to all card holders.

Do I need to inform Citibank about my intention to use the Grace period (as with the Equal Payment Plan)?

No, you don't. The Grace Period is granted to all clients by default, free of charge.

What operations are covered by the Grace period?

The Grace period applies to payments for goods and services using a credit card, including purchases via the Internet and municipal services payments.

What operations are not covered by the Grace period?

Grace Period does not apply to "Equal Payments Plan (EPP)" and cash withdrawal transactions, including unique/quasi-cash transactions defined by payment systems as transactions in highly liquid assets (e.g. money orders, payment for casino and gambling house services, etc.) and transfers from your credit card to a third party's account or your account in other banks of Russia.

What are unique/quasi-cash transactions?

How do I pay off my credit card debt to apply for the Grace period?

To apply for the Grace period you should duly pay off the total debt indicated in the statement. This way interest won't be charged on payment transactions indicated in the statement.

Please note that amounts refunded to your credit card by any retailer reduces your current debt, but cannot be considered repayment as per the bank statement. To take advantage of the Grace period you need to repay the full amount as per the bank statement.

If I’ve paid off my debt only in part — am I eligible for the Grace period the following month?

Yes, if you repay the full amount indicated in the statement in the following month. In this case, the Grace period will apply only to those operations which were made during the applicable month.

For example, you made a purchase in January and have received a statement showing your balance. For whatever reason you have not repaid this amount in full, so you cannot be granted the Grace period for January transactions. In February you make another purchase and receive the statement with the overall outstanding balance. If you pay off the February amount in full, you will be granted the Grace period for your February transactions.

Am I eligible for the Grace period if I pay regularly every month under the Equal Payment Plan?

Yes, you are. The monthly payment under the Equal Payment Plan is included in the total amount you owe. If this amount is repaid in full and on time, you are granted the Grace period for your usual transactions. A transaction under the Equal Payment Plan is paid as usual in equal installments, including the accrued interest.

When does interest start accruing?

Whenever you fail to pay off the balance in full before the date indicated in the statement, interest will be charged in accordance with the rates as of the date of purchase until repayment in full.
