Security experts have just discovered a Trojan designed to help criminals break into the accounts of banking customers.
The Banker-AJ Trojan (Troj/Banker-AJ) targets users of online banks, according to security firm Sophos (link to http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojbankeraj.html). Banker-AJ has been coded to lie dormant in the background on infected Windows PCs, waiting for users to visit legitimate online banking Web sites.
Once the user visits one of a number of banking Web sites the malicious code is triggered into action, capturing sensitive user data. This information is then relayed malicious hackers.
Citibank Russia warns the customers to watch for the unusual symptoms when logging in to CitibankÒ Online. If the machine is infected with this Trojan horse, the first attempt to login would not be successful and a screen similar to the one below would be presented asking to fill in certain sensitive bank details:
No information should be entered on this screen. Please contact Citibank immediately.
Citibank Online Users are strongly encouraged to update the Anti-Virus Software on their PCs. One should also exercise care when using the Internet generally and follow our security tips (link to http://www.citibank.ru/russia/info/rus/security.htm).
