Online Shopping with Citi Cards Becomes More Secure

With the introduction of the 3D Secure technology, online payment with Citi cards becomes more secure.

ZAO Citibank has announced today the introduction of 3D Secure, a technology that makes online shopping even more secure. It is a unique system that provides an additional level of security for online shopping. 3D Secure is part of the MasterCard® SecureCode™ and Verified by Visa global programs.

The new technology creates an additional security layer for Internet payments. This minimizes the possibility of unauthorized use of the card at the moment of payment to the participating Internet shop (member of MasterCard® SecureCode™ and Verified by Visa global programs).

Maria Lagutina, Head of e-Banking, ZAO Citibank, says: "According to our estimates, the number of Internet transactions is constantly growing. Hence, increased security on this payment channel becomes essential. The launch of the new technology will enable our customers to extend the scope of options available to them and to use their resources more efficiently."

During the first purchase at a participating Internet shop, the cardholder will be asked to activate the service for the Citibank credit or debit card. Once the service has been activated, the cardholder will be requested to enter a one-time password (valid for this particular purchase). Once the password has been entered, the payment will be processed. This one-time password is sent to the customer via SMS.

Internet shops, members of the above mentioned program, are distinguished by the specific MasterCard® SecureCode™ and Verified by Visa logos.
