Citi Russia and St. Petersburg’s "Child in Danger" Children's Shelter Celebrate 10 Years of Cooperation

Citi Russia marked the 10th anniversary of its cooperation with the "Child in Danger" children’s shelter in St. Petersburg on July 17, 2010. Alberto Verme, CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Citigroup, visited the shelter as part of the celebration and personally presented a new $15,000 donation from Citi.

Throughout the past 10 years, Citi Russia has supported the children's shelter financially, while staff members have donated their time and expertise. Citi employees have regularly visited Child in Danger, organized parties and excursions for the children and assisted the shelter’s staff in a variety of projects.

During his visit to the shelter, Verme said: "Citi actively supports employee volunteer initiatives in Russia and across the world. We have a very close relationship with the Child in Danger shelter, having assisted it for many years. We are very happy that our employees have taken the initiative to regularly visit children in the shelter and encourage them to continue to do so."

The Child in Danger social shelter for children is unique in Russia, specifically helping those who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Each year, it protects more than 200 children from harm and provides professional help from psychologists, doctors and teachers.

Nadezhda Bondarenko, director of Child in Danger, said: "We are grateful to Citibank not only for its financial assistance, but also for the help from Citi employees, who give human warmth to our kids."
