CJEA-2015 Contest

Citi Journalistic Excellence Award (CJEA) The independent Award in the field of financial and business journalism was founded in the USA, but has an international status. Over 1000 journalists from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, Africa have become the winners of the Award since 1982.

The winners of the Award - financial and business journalists from around the world - are annually awarded with a trip to New York, for the special practical program at the famous Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Winners of the CJEA-2015 Award Russia will be nominated in two categories:

  • Russian state policy on economy, finance, business, investments. This category is to define the best materials, devoted to the impact of the state regulation on the markets and business, state initiatives on business development, improvement of the investment climate and state control over economy, and business response to the regulations change.
  • A person in the world of business and finance. The category is designed to define the best press materials on successful business cases, stories, business strategy through a prism of businessmen; money-world realms of an ordinary citizen.

Timing of CJEA-2015

January, 15 – February, 13 – Registration of participants, collecting entries

February, 16, 2015 – Meeting of the independent jury for voting for 3 winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd place) in each category

February, 17 – February, 24, 2015 – Collection of extra materials from nominees. Nominees’ interviews with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism officers

February, 25 – March, 1, 2015 – Processing of all entries, nominee eligibility check, approval of all winners in each category

March, 2, 2015 – Official announcement of the CJEA-2015 winners

June 1-10, 2015 – Trip of the winners to the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism (New York City)

CJEA-2015 Rules of participation

The CJEA-2015 is open to participate for the journalists of business, economic and financial media, information agencies, radio stations, TV channels and other media, registered in Russia.

For joining the competition the journalists have to follow the link www.cjea2015.ru and submit their entries to the specially developed registration e-system. The journalists receive e-mail confirmation from organizing committee as a proof of successful registration. Contest registration and entries application is open for participants from January 15, 2015 to February, 13 2015.

  • Only media materials published or aired from January 1, 2014 to February 13, 2015 in the media registered in Russia are eligible for the CJEA-2015
  • Media materials have to fit in one of the categories: A person in the world of business and finance; Russian state policy on economy, finance, business, investments.
  • Minimal volume of article/transcript is 750 words
  • Explicit authorship of the material is obligatory. If the material has no author explicitly pronounced, the author has to confirm their authorship with the official confirmation letter from the editor-in-chief of the media
  • Citi mentioning is not obligatory
  • Media materials could be submitted by journalists and editors/producers on behalf of the journalists
  • Radio and TV materials should be submitted in transcript form (text format). Recorded video and audio files could be submitted as extra materials.

Citi Journalistic Excellence Award 2015 for the best business reporting launched in Russia

Winners of the award – Russian journalists, covering the topics on finance and business – will go to New York City for special practical program by the well-known organizer of Pulitzer Prize – the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Moscow, – January 15, 2015 – One of the largest global banks – Citi – announces the launch of the international journalistic contest – Citi Journalistic Excellence Award 2015 in Russia. Contest is designed for journalists of business, economic and financial media, news agencies, radio and TV and other types of media, registered on the territory of the Russian Federation. The award is aimed to support business and financial journalism, encourage the best journalists, according to independent jury, and increase the quality standards of journalism.

Contest is held in two categories:

  • Russian state policy on economy, finance, business, investments. This category is to define the best materials, devoted to the impact of the state regulation on the markets and business, state initiatives on business development, improvement of the investment climate and state control over economy, and business response to the regulations change;
  • A person in the world of business and finance. The category is designed to define the best press materials on successful business cases, stories, business strategy through a prism of businessmen; money-world realms of an ordinary citizen.

Categories are shaped by professional jury of well-known experts on finance, economics and business journalism.

  • Konstantin Abramov – chairman of board of directors of Russian public opinion research center WCIOM
  • Andrey Bystritskiy – Dean of the faculty of Communications, Media and Design in the University Higher School of Economics
  • Roman Goryunov – President of RTS Stock Exchange
  • Pavel Gusev – the Chairman of the Union of journalists of Moscow, the Editor-in-chief of the «Moskovsky Komsomolets» newspaper
  • Vladimir Zhelonkin – the President of «Kommersant» publishing house
  • Guzeliya Imaeva – the President of the National Agency for Financial Studies (NAFI)
  • Ilya Kopelevich – the Editor-in-chief of Business FM Radio
  • Natalia Larionova – the Director of the Department of Small and Medium Business and Competition of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation

The laureates in both categories will have an opportunity to attend the special practical program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. The program will include participation in trainings and master classes of recognized professionals in the field of business journalism, and tours to the main financial institutions of the USA and offices of the largest companies of the world, including office of Standard&Poor's, the New York stock exchange, main office of Bloomberg news agency and a Federal Reserve Bank.

Entries for the completion will be accepted through the 15th of January, 2015 to the 13th of February, 2015.

About Citi Journalistic Excellence Award: Citi Journalistic Excellence Award (CJEA), independent award for the best financial and business reporting, is founded in 1982 in the USA and has the international status: over 1000 journalists from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, Africa became winners since 1982.
